New Site: JSU Researcher

JSU Researcher

This is a very basic site for the Jackson State University academic journal called, The Researcher. It only has limited content management, but will be hosted on JSU's website which will give it an instant boost in the search engine rankings with a .edu domain name.

I went with a professional bookworm design with straightforward content. I wanted to keep it clean. Check out the site in it's development area, click here.

A New Chapter

As I mentioned before I'm branching my personal blog and political rants off into a new website. It seems appropriate to do this now that I'm starting a new chapter in my life. I'm going to leave all of my pictures and old posts here on Stop and Wonder but I'm going to mainly be blogging about Web design and programming here from now on.

The new site is called www.Taos2Cents.com, catchy huh? I'm still fine tuning it an adding new features, but it's up and running good enough to handle my posts. I truly hope you'll stop by and check out my new digs. I plan on posting a lot about more political things and posting video and pictures from the protests and events I'm going to start attending now that I'm back in the states. See you over there.

Put your Music where your Mouth is

It torrentially downpoured all night last night. It might finally mean the rainy season is here, it's a little late this year. It seems like it's very easy to blame global warming on every weather related quirk, I don't think this is part of that though. As I understand it central america will be having increased rain.

I finished up David Rovics' site a couple days ago. I'm sure there's more I could do, but I spent well over a week working on it and now I've got a backlog of stuff. I think it all turned out really well, although I wouldn't have made some of the changes David wanted, but thats how it always seems to go. In case you're interested, this is a before picture of his site, and yes, he was using frames (gasp).

Old David Rovics' Site

Here's how the new one turned out:

David Rovics Site

Somehow the name of this entry just popped into my head when I was thinking about David's music. It sounded like a pretty good description of what he does. Plus I like it's multi-edged meaning. I put my web design where my mouth is.

Christine's been busy preparing the water project training. She also managed to help a rural community get some land transferred, no small feat down here. It wasn't part of the post-war land distribution program luckily, because they simply wouldn't give it to them probably. After the war, part of the peace accords was to split up a lot of the land to give out to the poor. Well, the military-side government gave out all of the land to it's soldiers and has stalled, hemmed and hawed over giving out the rebels' lands. In fact, they flat out have said they won't do it.

Christine and I were talking the other day and while we want the FMLN to beat the Pro-US ARENA party in the next presidential election we're not too confident in the FMLN's leadership. You get the sense that there's a lot of animosity left in the FMLN and that they would simply start oppressing the ARENA party doing exactly the same thing they've despised. Of course, this is just speculation and if the right person were leading the party it wouldn't happen, but thats a big if.

In other news we spent last weekend at the beach for our friend Dave's birthday party. It was at a place called Playa El Tunco, a small little touristy place. Fortunately its not too touristy yet. It's mainly a big surfer hangout. Christine and I rented a board to see how it was, she's fairly experienced at it, but when she came back in crying I decided to pass.
